Get Growing – Indoors! 12 Noon

Whether you’re plagued by Alberta’s short growing season or a lack of outdoor space, or you simply have a desire to bolster your harvests, there are numerous reasons to bring the garden indoors. Join Janet Melrose and Sheryl Normandeau for a lively and informative talk about gardening year-round in climate-controlled conditions! Plants outside their natural habitat need a totally different kind of tender love and care, and Janet and Sheryl will explore all of the ins and outs you need to know for successful indoor growing. They will cover topics such as:

  • natural and artificial light
  • temperature
  • growing medium
  • troubleshooting potential issues

They will also guide you with plant inspiration, including recommendations for herbs, spices, fruit, vegetables, microgreens, sprouts, and even kitchen scraps. There will be plenty of time for Q&A so you can get the advice you need for a healthy, indoor food garden.

Sheryl Normandeau

SHERYL NORMANDEAU was born and raised in the Peace Country region of northern Alberta and has made Calgary her home since 1944. A writer and master gardener, Sheryl holds a bachelor’s degree in English, as well as a Prairie Horticulture Certificate and an Urban Sustainable Agriculture Certificate.

Janet Melrose

JANET MELROSE was born in Trinidad, West Indies, but has lived in Calgary since 1969. She is a master gardener and the creator and owner of the successful horticulture business Calgary’s Cottage Gardener, which specializes in garden education and consultation, horticultural therapy, and advocating for sustainable local food systems.

Many people know about Dr. Evans through the famed Evans Cherry but did you know he works with breeding all sorts of other plants including lilies? Learn from Dr Evans about lily diseases, his work breeding disease resistant lilies and the hardy daylilies he is growing as well.
