Andy Schalk with an armload of cut gladiolasAbout Andy:

Andy Schalk was inspired to start growing glads in 2018 for his son’s July wedding. After receiving 100 corms from his father-in-law and advice from Edmonton horticultural expert, Jim Hole, Andy’s journey with glads began. The challenge would be to produce early glads to bloom for the July 14th wedding. They ended up a success and Andy found his new hobby. In 2020, two ladies from Edmonton requested to buy his cut glads and it was then that Andy realized there could be a market for these beautiful blooms. Since his start in 2018, and with support from his wife and children, he has grown over 75,000 glads and is now the largest grower of glads in Alberta. Through social media, he has gained international attention and is eager to share his passion, along with growing techniques.
