Volunteer to be a Director at Large
As a member of the Board, the Director at Large acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the Society. This position is a year-round job and has equal responsibility for the board’s actions and decisions. The importance of a board member at large lies in their ability to offer a broad perspective and diverse insights to the board. They bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and skills from various backgrounds, which can enrich discussions, enhance decision-making processes, and ensure the board considers a wide range of viewpoints.
The Director at Large Duties include:
- Participate in all board meetings providing input on key decisions
- Serve on at least one committee
- Support board decisions even when voted against
- Make recommendations and decisions related to budgeting and fundraising for the organization or for specific projects or committees
- Act as ambassador for the organization, promoting its mission and activities
- Attendance at Annual General Meetings
- Attendance at meetings of assigned committees
- Support of, and participation in, fundraising events
Other duties may include:
- Assigned tasks by the Chair, which can align with their skill set
- A board member at large can even serve as a committee chair
- Other requirements may be assigned by executive board member
