Outreach

Outreach events promote the EHS and recruit new members to the EHS organization. This is a great job for anyone who likes chatting with people and sharing gardening expertise. If you don’t know the answer to a question, you can always write it down and get back to the person.

The Program Lead (Outreach Director, if on the Board) arranges for supplies, volunteers, and set-up and takedown of tables and displays.

Volunteers give out pamphlets with information about the Edmonton Horticultural Society, answer questions on gardening, and talk about volunteering with EHS. They hand out information sheets (e.g. seed starting dates), and give away gardening magazines, seeds, and candy. There is also a children’s quiz and when the kids finish they receive a small prize. There is a box for the attendees to enter their name for a year’s  free membership to the EHS.

At smaller Outreach events two volunteers may be sufficient, but bigger events need three or four people, especially if it’s a longer day.
