P Wagner School Orchard learning about fruit tree pruning and care from Alex McCormick of TreeLink. \nAlex will share his tips\, tricks and best practices for training and maintaining healthy fruit trees in our cold climate. P Wagner School Orchard:\nNatural Science (formerly Horticulture) is a CTS program at W.P. Wagner High School. Currently a growing program with over 200 students\, Natural Science is a class that students can take three times (Introductory\, Intermediate\, Advanced) but some students have taken it 4 and even 5 times. The Greenhouse has 3 sections and students work on skills in propagation\, plant care\, hydroponics\, horticulture\, gardening\, sprouting\, microgreening\, soil management\, composting\, floral decorating\, interioscaping\, integrated pest management\, landscaping\, tree maintenance\, and many more. Natural Science students are currently designing\, building\, and maintaining dozens of hydroponic systems including towers\, Deep Water Culture\, Nutrient Film Technique\, Kratke Systems\, aeroponics\, and aquaponics. Melissa will talk about how your garden is an important tool in combating habitat loss\, her successes and failures and ultimately what key features and plants a yard needs to be thriving with birds and pollinators. Ninety nine species of birds\, and hundreds of species of beneficial insects have visited her urban Edmonton backyard since she started gardening for wildlife and 80 species of birds have already visited her yard in 2023.

SUMMARY:Speaker Series June 2023
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a presentation from Milena McWatt from Wild Calm Forest Therapy on nature therapy and the benefits of nature as well as gardening for both mind and body.\n\n\nMilena is a certified guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. The seed of and name of Wild Calm was planted in 2018 when she was spending a lot of time alone in the woods with her dog. She instinctually retreated into the forest as she was struggling through a severe bout of depression. And it really helped. She looked around online to see if there was something to it. She stumbled upon the ANFT site and realized that forest therapy IS A THING and it would be a calling she could answer. Sharing the health benefits the forest can provide with others is something she is so grateful to be able to do.\nDoors open at 6:45\, speaker at 7:30.
