Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out\, this session will offer practical tips and inspiring ideas for enhancing your outdoor space in cold climates. \nAbout Morgan\nCopyright Jennylynn Fields \nMorgan Webb is a life long botanist and owner of Seed Check Technologies Inc. in Leduc\, Alberta.  As the Analyst in Charge\, he oversees the seed laboratory specializing in services such as purity testing\, germination\, seed health\, and vigour assessments for various species. Webb holds a diploma in Seed Technology from Olds College and is an accredited grader\, import release assessor and licensed seed crop inspector.  In addition to his work in the seed industry\, Webb moonlights at Greenland Garden Centre teaching classes and training\, and hosts the 880 CHED Garden Show on Sunday mornings.

DESCRIPTION:The Importance of Urban Natural Spaces\nSarah DeLano will speak about the importance of urban natural spaces as they relate to food systems and environmental and social equity. She will discuss two recent research projects she has been involved in: An urban berry picking project with the Métis Nation of Alberta Environment Department and a community-based research project completed at the U of A\, and in collaboration with the Multicultural Family Resource Society. The latter involved the creation of a place-based recipe book that features produce we can grow and forage right here in Edmonton.   \nDoors open at 6:30 pm\, Speaker at 7:00 pm. A single commercial grower produced lettuce on a 1-acre plot\, while 200 students toured the operation. Ten years later\, the Urban Farm is gardened by 22 different groups and hosts 10\,000 visitors yearly. DESCRIPTION:EcoVision : A story of Student’s Environmental Dreams Becoming a Reality\nEcoVision is a student-run club that Steve Schultz advises. Its goal is to build ecological leaders through projects that enhance student’s education\, help the environment and encourage community collaboration. The student-led projects include a 6.0 kW solar array\, the first of its kind in Canada near net-zero tropical geodesic greenhouse\, a two acre food forest with 200 fruit trees and 50 raised vegetable beds\, a bee apiary with 8 beehives\, a goat barn with a living roof & solar array\, the Educational Pollinator Indigenous Carbon Capture Garden (EPICC for short) and numerous other environmental projects. All of these projects have been incorporated into the school’s curriculum that Steven Schultz has developed. Because of these projects and their corresponding curriculums\, LCHS EcoVision club has won numerous awards such as the Emerald Award\, Ron Shulack Award\, Greenest School in Canada and five BP A+ for Energy Grants. Steve has been teaching high school science\, electronics\, and most recently agriculture at Lacombe Composite High School since 1996.
