SUMMARY:ANPC 2025 Hybrid Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The 2025 Workshop is happening on May 24th in Red Deer\, Alberta! Some of this year’s workshop “Plants through Time” will highlight how plants\, habitats\, conservation and people’s knowledge have evolved through time\, from decades to thousands of years. \nOur Keynote Speaker will be Jenny L. McCune with the University of Lethbridge (http://jlmccune.weebly.com/) speaking on Plants through Time: From the Distant Past to the Invisible Present. She will be discussing her experiences studying plant communities\, highlighting the challenges and intrigue involved in understanding the short-term and long-term history of plants\, and discuss these challenges to plant conservation in Canada. \nThere will be a banquet dinner after the workshop and a short field trip the morning of May 25 to Morris Flewwelling Ranch\, located in the Pine Lake Moraine approximately 30 minutes drive southeast of Red Deer.

SUMMARY:Successful No-Till Gardening Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Sangudo Hort Club is excited to partner with the Darwell Public Library to host this all day workshop. Using deep mulch and permanent seed beds\, No-Till can help make gardening more enjoyable and productive. Kim Ross is the engaging and knowledgeable owner of Rossdale Farm in Mannville\, AB. Kim has been researching and practising No-Till gardening very successfully for almost ten years. Becoming a Master Gardener\, Kim dug in and put what she learned to practice and has built large No-Till personal and market gardens that are rousing successes. She is coming to Darwell to share her love of gardening the No-Till way. The day starts at the library with theory in the morning and putting the theory to practice in the afternoon. At a nearby farm Kim will guide workshop participants as we build No-Till beds\, including space for food bank crops. Register online by April 21.

During their 20+ years there\, Sharon wore many hats\, including perennial production\, seeding\, and marketing and retail strategizing with Dan. \nIn this current phase of her career\, Sharon uses her experiences to mentor professional growers\, home gardeners\, and children. She writes a blog on her website\, which has spilled over into in-school field trips\, group speaking\, workshops\, and encouraging prairie gardeners. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out\, this session will offer practical tips and inspiring ideas for enhancing your outdoor space in cold climates. \nAbout Morgan\nCopyright Jennylynn Fields \nMorgan Webb is a life long botanist and owner of Seed Check Technologies Inc. in Leduc\, Alberta.  As the Analyst in Charge\, he oversees the seed laboratory specializing in services such as purity testing\, germination\, seed health\, and vigour assessments for various species. Webb holds a diploma in Seed Technology from Olds College and is an accredited grader\, import release assessor and licensed seed crop inspector.  In addition to his work in the seed industry\, Webb moonlights at Greenland Garden Centre teaching classes and training\, and hosts the 880 CHED Garden Show on Sunday mornings.

DESCRIPTION:The Importance of Urban Natural Spaces\nSarah DeLano will speak about the importance of urban natural spaces as they relate to food systems and environmental and social equity. She will discuss two recent research projects she has been involved in: An urban berry picking project with the Métis Nation of Alberta Environment Department and a community-based research project completed at the U of A\, and in collaboration with the Multicultural Family Resource Society. The latter involved the creation of a place-based recipe book that features produce we can grow and forage right here in Edmonton.   \nDoors open at 6:30 pm\, Speaker at 7:00 pm. This event will also be presented on Zoom for people who can’t attend in person. Non-Members can purchase a ticket below. Members can go here for the link. \nSarah DeLano \nAbout Sarah\n\nSarah DeLano is a mother\, teacher\, berry picker and researcher. She is a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta with deep ancestral roots in the City of Edmonton\, where she resides. Her research focuses on urban greenspace and community building; on the land\, edible plants\, and people of Edmonton and the connections that bind them together.   \n \n\nBut wait\, there’s more!\nWe are excited to announce that the Alberta Regional Lily Society will be selling bulbs at this event prior to the speaker!
